Severe Flooding Causes Disruptions in Pune

Pune and Kolhapur have been severely affected by heavy rains, leading to school closures and widespread disruptions. The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert, prompting the Pune District Collector to order school closures in multiple areas due to flooding risks. As water levels in the Khadakwasla Dam reached maximum capacity, authorities escalated water release into the Mutha River, compounding the flooding issue. Tragically, three individuals have died from electrocution while navigating flooded areas, and significant traffic disruptions have been reported due to waterlogged roads. Residents in low-lying areas are urged to evacuate as the situation worsens, with local authorities mobilizing rescue operations. The heavy rainfall has also caused widespread power outages and has been characterized as the highest daily rainfall in Pune for July in over a decade.
