Mathieu Betts, a standout defensive lineman, has re-signed with the B.C. Lions for the remainder of the 2024 season after being released by the Detroit Lions. Betts, who previously had a record-breaking season in the CFL with 18 sacks—most ever by a Canadian player—was named the league's Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2023. He performed exceptionally well with the Lions, contributing 44 tackles, four forced fumbles, and a blocked kick. Betts is expected to play in the upcoming Touchdown Pacific Game this Saturday. His return comes after a three-game preseason stint with Detroit, where he recorded two tackles and a sack. The B.C. Lions currently rank fourth in the league with 22 sacks, and Betts' addition is anticipated to enhance their defensive lineup further.
