Patelco Credit Union Data Breach Exposes Member Information

Patelco Credit Union has confirmed that a ransomware attack on June 29, 2024, compromised the personal information of its members, including names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, dates of birth, and email addresses. The attack, which led to a two-week outage of banking services, was traced back to unauthorized access starting May 23, 2024. Following the breach, Patelco is offering a complimentary two-year membership to Experian IdentityWorks for credit monitoring and identity protection, while advising members on preventive measures such as placing fraud alerts and credit freezes. The credit union is cooperating with law enforcement and cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident. Despite acknowledging the breach, Patelco has not specified which data was accessed or the total number of affected members. Customers are urged to monitor their financial accounts and report any suspicious activity over the next two years.
