Jaime Lozano Dismissed as Mexico Head Coach

Jaime Lozano has been dismissed as head coach of the Mexico national soccer team following their early exit from the 2024 Copa América. The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) had offered Lozano a role as an assistant coach leading up to the 2026 World Cup, with a plan for him to retake the head coach position from 2026 to 2030, but he declined. Javier Aguirre is being considered as the main candidate to replace Lozano. Lozano’s tenure saw some successes, including winning the 2023 Gold Cup, but his team’s performance in the Copa América and other tournaments drew significant criticism. The FMF is set to announce further changes in August.
