Sylvester Turner to Run for Jackson Lee’s Seat

Democrats have selected former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner to run for the late Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s seat in Texas's 18th Congressional District. Erica Lee Carter, Jackson Lee’s daughter, aims to fill her mother's term until January. The general election will see Turner face Republican nominee Lana Centonze. The Democratic National Convention in Chicago will feature prominent figures including President Joe Biden, former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, and Vice President Kamala Harris, who is now the Democratic presidential nominee following Biden's withdrawal.
