Modi to visit Wayanad
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the landslide-affected Wayanad in Kerala to assess the situation following the disaster that has resulted in at least 226 confirmed deaths and numerous missing individuals. The Kerala government has requested Rs 2,000 crore in aid for reconstruction efforts, highlighting extensive damage to homes, agricultural land, and infrastructure. Modi's visit will include an aerial survey, interactions with survivors, and a review meeting with officials regarding ongoing relief operations. Rahul Gandhi has expressed support for Modi's visit, suggesting it may lead to the landslide being declared a national disaster. Rescue efforts are ongoing, with 23 relief camps currently housing over 2,200 people, while the search for missing persons continues. The state government plans to shift some individuals from relief camps to temporary housing as part of rehabilitation efforts.
