Telangana High Court Reviews Medical Admission Rules

The Telangana High Court has directed the state government to review the applications of private engineering colleges seeking to increase student intake for in-demand courses like CSE, IT, and AI, after previously dismissing their pleas. In a separate matter, the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences has extended the registration deadline for MBBS and BDS admissions under the Competent Authority Quota until August 15, 2024, for students who met the NEET-UG 2024 cut-off scores. Concurrently, the High Court is hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging recent amendments to the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Rules, which redefine qualifications for local candidates. Petitioners argue that these changes, made post-NEET application process initiation, infringe on their rights and violate constitutional provisions. The court has given the state and university until August 14 to respond to these challenges.
