Taiwan air raid drills
Taiwan has conducted its annual Wanan air raid defense drills in northern regions, including Taipei, simulating a response to a potential Chinese missile attack. During the exercise, sirens prompted mandatory evacuations and sheltering protocols, effectively shutting down cities for half an hour. Simultaneously, the Han Kuang military exercises commenced, focusing on realistic combat scenarios to prepare troops for Chinese aggression, with no pre-announced scenarios to enhance operational readiness. President Lai Ching-te emphasized the need for improved combat power to assure citizens and deter threats from China, which has increased military pressure on Taiwan. The drills occur amidst heightened tensions, although no unusual Chinese military activity has been reported during this period. The exercises reflect Taiwan's ongoing efforts to bolster its defense capabilities amid ongoing territorial disputes with Beijing.
