OSHA Cites Builders in Boise Hangar Collapse
Federal safety investigators have cited Big D Builders for 'blatant disregard' of safety standards leading to the collapse of a hangar at Boise Airport, resulting in the deaths of three workers and injuries to at least eight others. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has proposed nearly $200,000 in penalties for one willful violation and three serious violations. Key issues identified include insufficient bracing and tensioned wires, ignored warnings of structural instability, and inadequate worker training. Additionally, Inland Crane, another contractor involved, faces over $10,000 in fines for exposing workers to collapse hazards. Both companies have the option to contest the citations. The families of two deceased workers have filed wrongful death lawsuits against Big D Builders and other associated companies.
