Javier Baez Placed on Injured List
Javier Báez of the Detroit Tigers has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to right hip and lumbar spine inflammation, with further tests pending to assess the severity of his condition. Manager A.J. Hinch noted that Báez has been experiencing lingering issues with his hip and back, which has affected his performance this season, where he is batting just .184. Báez, a key player in the Cubs' 2016 World Series win, has struggled since signing a six-year, $140 million contract with the Tigers in 2021. This marks another injury setback for Báez, who previously spent nearly a month on the injured list earlier this season for lumbar spine issues. In a corresponding move, the Tigers recalled infielder Ryan Kreidler from Triple-A Toledo, as Báez has been sharing shortstop duties with Trey Sweeney due to his ongoing health problems. The extent of Báez's injury remains unclear, but the team hopes for a swift recovery.
