Students Demand Justice in Kolkata Rally

Protests have erupted in Kolkata demanding justice for the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital, with the student group Paschimbanga Chhatra Samaj organizing a march to the state secretariat, Nabanna. The West Bengal government has labeled the rally as illegal, citing concerns over potential unrest and failure to obtain necessary permits. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently investigating the case, having named former principal Sandip Ghosh in an FIR related to alleged financial irregularities at the hospital. As tensions rise, police are deploying thousands of officers to prevent the march, while government officials accuse the protestors of being backed by vested interests. Meanwhile, the CBI has also initiated polygraph tests for the prime accused, Sanjay Roy, who is in judicial custody.
