Amit Shah Introduces Disaster Management Bill

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to introduce a bill to amend the Disaster Management Act, 2005, in both Houses of Parliament, in response to recent devastating landslides in Kerala's Wayanad district, which resulted in 276 deaths. Shah highlighted that the central government had issued early warnings to Kerala prior to the landslides, suggesting that the tragic loss of life could have been mitigated. Additionally, discussions will continue regarding the Union Budget 2024-25 and various Demands for Grants related to the Ministries of Railways, Education, and Health and Family Welfare. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will also propose an amendment to the Customs Tariff Act. The parliamentary session, ongoing since July 22, will address multiple motions and reports, including those from the Business Advisory Committee and the National Institutes of Food Technology. Disruptions in proceedings have occurred, particularly concerning remarks made by BJP MP Anurag Thakur about Rahul Gandhi.
