Venezuela opposition candidate
Venezuelan opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia has been issued a second summons to appear before prosecutors regarding his claim of being the rightful winner of the recent presidential election. Gonzalez, 74, has remained in hiding due to threats of arrest from President Nicolas Maduro, whose controversial victory has led to widespread unrest and accusations of electoral fraud. He accused the Attorney General of bias and stated he was summoned 'without guarantees' of due process. The National Electoral Council declared Maduro the winner with 52% of the votes, yet opposition sources claim Gonzalez actually secured 67%. Following the election, protests resulted in at least 27 deaths and thousands of arrests, further deepening Venezuela's political crisis. Human rights organizations and international bodies have called for transparency in the election results, demanding the release of complete tallies.
