The Republican National Committee (RNC) has filed a lawsuit against Detroit's Election Commission, alleging that the city appointed an unequal number of election inspectors, hiring about 2,337 Democrats compared to only 310 Republicans for the August 6 primary elections. This discrepancy, representing a 7.5-to-1 ratio, violates Michigan election law which mandates that each precinct should ideally have an equal number of inspectors from both major parties. The lawsuit highlights that 200 out of 335 precincts did not have a single Republican inspector, despite a list of 675 nominated Republicans submitted to the commission. The RNC argues that this lack of parity undermines public trust in the electoral process. In response, RNC officials are demanding immediate action to ensure compliance with state law for future elections. Similar lawsuits have been previously filed against other Democratic strongholds, such as Flint.
