Booker Prize finalists
The 2024 Booker Prize longlist has been announced, featuring 13 authors that reflect a diverse array of voices, with a strong representation from British and American writers. Among the nominees are notable works such as Percival Everett's 'James,' which reinterprets 'Huckleberry Finn' from the perspective of Jim, and Tommy Orange's 'Wandering Stars,' marking him as the first Native American nominee. The judging panel, led by Edmund de Waal, evaluated 156 books published between October 2023 and September 2024, highlighting the significance of the selected works in addressing universal themes of belonging and displacement. Other American nominees include Rachel Kushner, Rita Bullwinkel, and Claire Messud, alongside international authors from Canada, the Netherlands, and the UK. The winner will be announced on November 12, 2024, during a ceremony in London, with a cash prize of £50,000 awarded to the recipient.
