Strong earthquake in Japan
On Thursday, Japan experienced two significant earthquakes measuring 6.9 and 7.1 in magnitude, primarily affecting the southwestern islands of Kyushu and Shikoku. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued tsunami warnings for several regions, including Miyazaki and Kochi, where waves of up to 50 cm were observed. Despite the tremors, there were no immediate reports of major damage or casualties, and Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi confirmed that nuclear power plants showed no abnormalities. Some areas received advisories for a one-meter-high tsunami, but state seismologists in the Philippines stated there was no tsunami threat to their country. The situation is being closely monitored, with authorities checking for any damage. Local reports indicated that residents felt a strong jolt lasting up to a minute.
