Errollyn Wallen Appointed Master of King's Music
King Charles has appointed Errollyn Wallen CBE as the new Master of the King's Music, marking his first appointment to this honorary role. Wallen succeeds Dame Judith Weir and is notable for being the first person of color and only the second woman to hold this prestigious position since its inception. The Master of the King's Music is conferred upon a distinguished musician who has contributed significantly to the musical life of the UK and Commonwealth, often composing for royal occasions. Wallen, a Belize-born British composer, is recognized for her extensive body of work, including contributions to the BBC Proms and significant events like the 2012 Paralympic Games. Expressing her excitement, Wallen stated, 'It will be a privilege and a great honour to serve His Majesty The King.' This appointment underscores the King's admiration for her work and commitment to promoting music for all.
