Man jailed for 11 years after attacking police officers

Mark Fox, 35, from Billingham, has been sentenced to 11 years and eight months in prison for attacking Cleveland Police officers with a knife, leaving them with stab and slash wounds. The officers were responding to concerns for a man's safety when Fox assaulted them on June 2, 2023. Despite pleading guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, Fox was found guilty of two counts of wounding with intent. The bravery of the officers was commended, and they were named regional winners at the National Police Bravery Awards 2024. Superintendent John Wrintmore emphasized the unacceptable nature of violence towards emergency workers and highlighted the need for full support from the criminal justice system.
