George Norcross Pleads Not Guilty to Racketeering
New Jersey Democratic power broker George Norcross and five co-defendants, including his brother Phillip and former Camden Mayor Dana Redd, pleaded not guilty to racketeering charges in court. The indictment, stemming from a years-long investigation led by Attorney General Matt Platkin, alleges that the defendants manipulated property deals on the Camden waterfront to secure millions in tax credits and exerted undue influence over government officials. Norcross, who controls significant political power in South Jersey, is accused of threatening developers to further his interests. Co-defendant Sidney Brown's arraignment was postponed due to a scheduling conflict with his attorney. Norcross's legal team argues that the charges are baseless and that Norcross's actions benefited the community and Cooper University Health Care.
