Fourth Arrest Made in Waterbury Murder Case

Waterbury police have arrested a fourth suspect, Jada Ellis, in connection with the November 2023 shooting death of 18-year-old Joseph Zavala. Ellis, 20, was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and weapons in a motor vehicle and is being held on a $250,000 bond. The incident occurred when Zavala was shot while driving with friends, ultimately leading to his death after being dropped off at Saint Mary's Hospital. Three other individuals, including a 16-year-old, have already been charged in the case, with the suspects ranging in age from 16 to 20. Authorities suspect gang activity may be involved in the shooting. The investigation continues as police review surveillance footage.
