A 55-year-old woman from near Chester has been arrested for spreading false information on social media about the Southport stabbing suspect, fueling racial hatred and violence. She is accused of publishing material that falsely identified the suspect as an asylum seeker on an M16 watchlist, leading to nationwide riots and attacks on asylum seeker accommodations. Chief Superintendent Alison Ross emphasized the dangers of sharing unverified information online, noting the resultant violent disorder across the UK. Authorities have warned against the spread of incorrect details about the suspect, 18-year-old Axel Rudakubana. Experts highlighted that misinformation was propagated by high-profile figures to incite division and unrest. Hundreds have been arrested in connection with the ensuing riots, which included attacks on police officers and the targeting of a mosque in Southport.
