Eliud Kipchoge Retires from Olympic Competition
Eliud Kipchoge, widely regarded as the greatest marathon runner, failed to finish the marathon at the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking his first-ever DNF (did not finish) and signaling the end of his illustrious Olympic career. Despite starting strong, Kipchoge struggled with back pain and dropped out after the 30km mark, expressing gratitude for the support from fans and fellow runners. Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola won the marathon gold, while Benson Kipruto secured bronze for Kenya. Kipchoge, who held the marathon world record from 2018 to 2023 and won Olympic gold in 2016 and 2020, announced his retirement from Olympic competition, although he plans to stay connected to the sport in other capacities. Additionally, Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi won the 800m race with the third-fastest time in history, while Japan's Mori Ai and Slovenia's Janja Garnbret made notable achievements in climbing events.
