Delhi's Wettest August in 14 Years

Delhi experienced its wettest August in 14 years with 390.3 mm of rainfall, surpassing the monthly average of 233.1 mm, and the highest since 2010 when it recorded 455.1 mm. The city saw rain on 26 out of 30 days in August, making it the coolest August in 11 years with a mean maximum temperature of 34.2°C and a mean minimum of 25.7°C. The heavy rainfall brought significant temperature relief but also led to waterlogging and traffic disruptions. Nationally, July and August have been among the wettest in three decades, with rainfall across India totaling 585 mm, aiding soil moisture and crop sowing. This period has been marked by favorable Madden-Julian Oscillation conditions and a delayed La Niña event, which is now expected by November.
