Flooding in Connecticut and New York Causes Deaths
Severe flooding caused by torrential rain in Connecticut and Long Island has resulted in at least two fatalities, extensive property damage, and major infrastructure failures. In Connecticut, over a foot of rain fell in some areas, leading to flash floods that trapped residents and caused significant destruction in towns like Oxford, where two women were swept away by floodwaters. Suffolk County in Long Island also declared a state of emergency as up to nine inches of rain inundated homes and roads, prompting rescues and damage assessments. Local officials are estimating storm damages to be around $25 million and are seeking federal aid for recovery efforts. Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont emphasized the unpredictable nature of such storms while pledging support for affected communities. Emergency response teams are currently engaged in rescue operations and damage evaluations across the impacted regions.
