Mark Vientos is expected to return to the Mets' lineup on Wednesday after dealing with left ankle soreness that caused him to miss two consecutive games. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza indicated that Vientos is feeling good and was merely held out to ensure he is fit after his pregame workout. The 24-year-old third baseman had initially injured his ankle on August 4 but has shown significant improvement since then. Despite being scratched from the lineup, Vientos was able to step in as a designated hitter after J.D. Martinez was injured during the game against the Athletics. Vientos has shown considerable improvement this season, boasting a .270 batting average and an .859 OPS in 70 games, marking a significant leap from his performance last year. His role has become more secure with the Mets, particularly after Brett Baty's struggles last season.
