Russia has initiated large-scale naval exercises involving around 300 ships and 20,000 personnel across the Northern, Pacific, Baltic, and Caspian seas, excluding the Black Sea Fleet due to its involvement in the Ukraine conflict. The drills are designed to test the combat readiness and capabilities of the Navy, with over 300 exercises planned that include anti-aircraft missile deployment, artillery, and anti-submarine operations. This demonstration of military capability comes amid ongoing losses in Ukraine and follows previous joint exercises with China and South Africa. Russia's naval forces are reportedly adapting to modern warfare challenges, including drone technology, as they strengthen their maritime posture. Analysts suggest that despite current struggles, Russia retains a significant naval presence, ranking as the third strongest navy globally. The exercises also coincide with geopolitical tensions, particularly with the U.S. regarding military deployments in Europe.
