Allyson Felix Elected to IOC Athletes' Commission
Allyson Felix, the seven-time Olympic gold medalist, has been elected to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes' Commission, securing the highest number of votes at the Paris Olympics with 2,880 out of 6,576 ballots cast. Joining her on the commission are German gymnast Kim Bui, Australian canoeist Jessica Fox, a double gold medalist in Paris, and New Zealand tennis player Marcus Daniell. They will serve an eight-year term, succeeding members elected during the 2016 Rio Olympics, including Russian pole vault record holder Yelena Isinbayeva. The election drew competition from 32 candidates across 15 sports, highlighting the diverse representation of athletes. The IOC consists of a maximum of 115 members, which includes various prominent figures from sports and other fields. This election marks a significant milestone in Felix's post-athletic career, as she transitions into a role influencing Olympic decisions.
