Class 9 Student Steals Gold for iPhone

A Class 9 student in southwest Delhi's Najafgarh has been detained for allegedly stealing his mother's gold jewelry to finance his girlfriend's birthday and buy her an iPhone. The incident was reported on August 3 when the boy's mother lodged an FIR stating the theft of two gold chains, a pair of gold earrings, and a gold ring. Police investigations identified the boy as the culprit after discovering he had gone missing following the burglary and had recently bought a ₹50,000 iPhone. The boy sold the jewelry to two goldsmiths, one of whom, Kamal Verma, has been arrested. Despite initial denials, the juvenile confessed to the crime after police interrogation. He had stolen the items after his mother refused to give him money for the gift, advising him to focus on his studies instead.
