The Madras High Court has permitted the Formula 4 Street Car Race, set to be the first night race in South Asia, to proceed in Chennai on August 31 and September 1. The court's decision followed assurances from the Tamil Nadu government that it would secure the necessary FIA certification before the event. The 3.7 km race will traverse major public roads, raising concerns from BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad, who argued that the race would disrupt traffic and violate city regulations. Both the Advocate General and senior counsel for the race organizers assured that the FIA Homologation certificate would be obtained shortly before the race. The court emphasized the need for public safety and unobstructed access to essential services during the event. This ruling comes after a previous postponement of the race due to Cyclone Michaung in December 2023.
