SWISS Boeing 777 Diverts to Kazakhstan for Medical Emergency
On August 17, 2024, SWISS flight LX161, a Boeing 777-300ER, was forced to divert to Astana, Kazakhstan due to a medical emergency onboard. After landing safely, the aircraft encountered a technical issue when the nose wheel became stuck in the grass while taxiing, requiring towing back onto the runway. Fortunately, there were no injuries among the 319 passengers on board. The aircraft is currently undergoing inspections for potential damage, and an investigation will be conducted to assess the incident. SWISS is working to arrange onward travel for the passengers, considering dispatching a replacement aircraft from Zurich. The airline has faced challenges in rebooking options due to the circumstances at Astana airport.
