Congress Allocates Funds for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections
The Congress party disclosed to the Election Commission of India that Rahul Gandhi received ₹1.40 crore for contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Wayanad and Rae Bareli, with ₹70 lakh allocated for each constituency. Gandhi won both seats but chose to retain the Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh, prompting a bypoll in Wayanad, where Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be the Congress candidate. Vikramaditya Singh received the highest allocation of ₹87 lakh but lost to BJP's Kangana Ranaut in Mandi. Other Congress candidates who received ₹70 lakh each included Kishori Lal Sharma, K C Venugopal, Manickam Tagore, Radhakrishna, and Vijay Inder Singla. Senior leaders Anand Sharma and Digvijay Singh received smaller amounts and both lost their elections. The Congress won a total of 99 seats in the 2024 elections, and Rahul Gandhi was appointed the Leader of Opposition.
