Japan extradition to Denmark

Japan has formally requested the extradition of Paul Watson, a U.S.-Canadian anti-whaling activist, who was arrested in Greenland on July 21. Watson, the founder of the Sea Shepherd activist group, is accused of breaking into a Japanese whaling ship in 2010 and causing property damage. Denmark's justice ministry is currently reviewing the request and will forward it to Greenland police for further investigation unless grounds for rejection arise. Watson's lawyer has expressed concerns about the fairness of Japan's justice system and has urged Denmark to deny the extradition. The decision ultimately rests with Denmark's justice ministry, and French President Macron's office has also requested that Watson not be extradited. Watson was apprehended after his vessel docked in Nuuk while en route to intercept a Japanese whaling factory ship in the North Pacific.
