A global IT outage caused by a software bug in CrowdStrike's cybersecurity update, which affected Microsoft services, has led to widespread disruptions in air travel and other sectors. Major airlines such as United, American, and Delta faced significant delays and cancellations, with nearly 1,700 flights cancelled in the US alone. Airports in New York, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Madurai, and other locations were particularly hard hit, leading to chaos and manual processing of boarding passes. New York state and city officials, including Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams, assured the public that critical services were still operational and ongoing efforts were being made to fix the issue. Despite the widespread issues, critical infrastructure such as New York City's 911 system and subway services remained operational. The incident underscores the necessity for robust cybersecurity measures to prevent such widespread disruptions in the future.
