The European Commission has denied Hungary and Slovakia's request for urgent consultations regarding Ukraine's sanctions on Russian oil supplier Lukoil, asserting that there is no immediate risk to their oil supplies. EU Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis indicated that the sanctions do not disrupt transit operations via the Druzhba pipeline, provided Lukoil does not formally own the oil. Both countries had raised concerns about their energy security following Ukraine's decision to stop Lukoil's oil transit through its territory. Dombrovskis noted that Hungary and Slovakia should explore alternative crude supply routes, as several EU member states have already inquired about this. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal emphasized that Ukraine remains open to cooperation with the two nations, while reiterating the importance of moving away from Russian oil. The situation reflects ongoing tensions between Ukraine and its EU neighbors over energy security amid the continuing conflict with Russia.
