The Baltimore Orioles made a big move to retain the American League East title after the Angelos family sold the club for $1.725 billion, retaining the 2021 Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes in a four-man trade with the Milwaukee Brewers. Burnes is a significant addition to the Orioles' rotation, ranked second in wins above replacement and seventh in strikeout rate among qualified starting pitchers since 2020. The Orioles, coming off a 101-win season, finished two games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2023, and are now making a decisive push to improve their pitching attack with the arrival of Burnes. The cost of the trade was shortstop Joey Ortiz, left-handed pitcher DJ Hall, and a Competitive Balance Round A draft pick, with Burnes replacing Kyle Gibson, a free agent who fled to St. Louis, at the top of the Orioles' rotation.
