They allege that over 225,000 individuals were registered to vote using forms that did not collect essential identification information as required by the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). NCSBE officials counter that federal law prohibits removing voters from the rolls within 90 days of an election and assert that they are in compliance with the law. The RNC’s chairman, Michael Whatley, claims the board is neglecting its responsibilities and undermining election integrity. Additionally, the NCSBE has stated that their actions to rectify the situation were communicated to both Republican and Democratic officials well in advance. This lawsuit is part of a broader strategy by the RNC to challenge voting processes in multiple states, including Michigan, where they have raised similar concerns about election inspector hiring.
