President Murmu Urges Reform to Court Adjournments
President Droupadi Murmu has called for a concerted effort to eliminate the 'culture of adjournments' in Indian courts to facilitate quicker justice delivery. Speaking at the National Conference of the District Judiciary, she highlighted the significant challenge posed by the backlog of court cases and emphasized the responsibility of judges to protect justice. Murmu introduced the term 'Black court syndrome' to describe the stress experienced by citizens in court settings, suggesting it warrants further study. She expressed satisfaction with the growing number of women judicial officers in the system. The event was attended by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud and Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, who supported her call for reform. Additionally, Murmu unveiled the flag and insignia of the Supreme Court during the conference.
