Varas has selected a 24-man roster that includes newcomers Diego Kochen and Marlon Fossey, both of whom have yet to appear for the national team. Notable absences due to injury include right back Sergiño Dest, midfielder Tyler Adams, and winger Tim Weah. The U.S. will play Canada on Saturday in Kansas City and New Zealand three days later in Cincinnati. Varas, who previously coached the U.S. under-20 team and led them to notable achievements, was part of Berhalter's staff prior to taking on this interim role.
