Matvei Michkov to Join Philadelphia Flyers for 2024-25 Season
Matvei Michkov, a top prospect drafted seventh overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2023, has terminated his contract with SKA St. Petersburg of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League and is set to join the Flyers for the 2024-25 NHL season. The 19-year-old forward, known for his exceptional skill set, had been initially expected to remain in the KHL until 2026, but recent developments have accelerated his arrival. Michkov's decision is partly motivated by the desire to fulfill a long-time dream of his late father. Flyers GM Danny Brière emphasized the importance of surrounding Michkov with the necessary support to ensure a smooth transition, as his arrival significantly boosts the team's rebuilding efforts. Michkov spent most of the last season on loan at Sochi HC, where he recorded 41 points in 47 games.
