Delhi LG Orders Monthly Civic Inspections

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena of Delhi has mandated Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to establish a systematic inspection mechanism for assessing the city's civic infrastructure, following significant failures during this year's monsoon season. His directives come in response to a complete breakdown of services, particularly due to clogged drains and sewer lines, which have resulted in preventable fatalities. Saxena emphasized that senior officers must conduct regular inspections and submit monthly reports detailing their findings, alongside geo-tagged photographs for accountability. The Delhi High Court has also criticized the government for neglecting infrastructure maintenance, particularly the desilting of drains, and has demanded immediate remedial actions. The proposed inspection schedule includes weekly checks by heads of departments and fortnightly reviews by principal secretaries, aimed at addressing the systemic issues in urban management. The LG's actions reflect a broader concern over the management and planning of civic services in a rapidly urbanizing environment.
