Kimi Antonelli Named Mercedes Driver for 2025

Andrea Kimi Antonelli, an 18-year-old Italian driver, has been confirmed as Lewis Hamilton's successor at Mercedes for the 2025 Formula One season, following Hamilton's transfer to Ferrari. Team principal Toto Wolff expressed confidence in Antonelli, stating that the new driver lineup with George Russell combines experience and youthful talent, although he acknowledged Hamilton's irreplaceability in terms of legacy. Antonelli, who has a strong junior racing background, recently crashed during his F1 debut practice session but remains optimistic about his upcoming role, emphasizing his desire to learn from Russell. Mercedes has not ruled out the possibility of signing Max Verstappen for 2026, depending on their performance in the upcoming seasons. Antonelli will also be working with race engineer Peter 'Bono' Bonnington, who will support him in his debut year.
