Chris Shula, grandson of legendary coach Don Shula, has been promoted to defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, replacing Raheem Morris. Shula has been with the Rams since 2017, progressing from assistant linebackers coach to linebackers coach and defensive backs coach. His promotion follows Raheem Morris' departure to become head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. The Rams' defense, which had been seeking a replacement for Morris, ranked 18th in points per game allowed and 11th in success rate last season. Shula's grandfather is Don Shula, who was a two-time Super Bowl champion and four-time Coach of the Year, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
