Chicago Prepares for Migrant Influx Before DNC

Chicago is preparing for up to 25,000 migrants to arrive ahead of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), following Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's vow to continue busing migrants to sanctuary cities. City officials, including Deputy Mayor Beatriz Ponce de León, have emphasized the need to prepare for this potential influx despite the city's migrant count declining in recent months. Various shelters and 'just-in-time' beds are being arranged to accommodate new arrivals. The city's policy of limiting shelter stays to 60 days remains in place, though it is under review. Additionally, Chicago has applied for a FEMA grant to assist with food, shelter, and vaccinations.
