Russian Missile Strike Affects Kyiv Power Plant
A Russian missile strike on August 26 targeted the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant in Vyshhorod, Ukraine, but officials confirmed that no critical damage occurred. Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, stated that the dam is safe and cannot be destroyed by missiles, contrasting the situation with the previous Kakhovka dam explosion, which was caused by internal detonation. Governor Ruslan Kravchenko echoed these sentiments, announcing that traffic on the dam would resume shortly and that power restoration efforts were underway. The missile strikes were part of a larger coordinated attack across Ukraine, affecting energy infrastructure in 15 regions and resulting in casualties. President Zelensky characterized the assault as one of the largest since the war began, with reports of extensive damage to the energy sector overall. Despite the attacks, officials maintain that the critical infrastructure remains intact and operational.
