BJP Calls Bengal Bandh After Police Violence

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called for a 'Bengal Bandh' in protest against police violence during the 'Nabanna Abhijan' march, which saw clashes between protesters and police over the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College. The protests, initially led by doctors and students seeking justice, were marred by allegations of political hijacking for agendas against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Accusations flew from multiple sides, with BJP condemning police actions and TMC accusing BJP of politicizing the tragedy. Governor C V Ananda Bose criticized the TMC for using force against protesters, while TMC MP Mahua Moitra highlighted the brutality faced by police. The violence resulted in injuries and arrests on both sides, and the Kolkata High Court has transferred the case's investigation to the CBI amid claims of a cover-up and corruption within the state’s health system.
