Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso has denied allegations that she was expelled from the Olympic village, claiming she is a victim of 'lies' and 'false information.' The accusations suggested her behavior, including wearing revealing clothing and socializing, created an 'inappropriate atmosphere' for her teammates. In her Instagram statement, Alonso clarified, 'I was never kicked out or expelled from anywhere,' emphasizing her intention to counter the false reports. The head of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, Larissa Schaerer, stated that Alonso's presence was deemed distracting, but Alonso maintained that her departure from the Athletes’ Village was voluntary. Despite failing to qualify in her event, Alonso announced her retirement from swimming shortly after the Games. She has since returned to the US, where she is studying political science.
