Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar seeking strength and positivity following her disqualification from the women's 50kg event at the Paris Olympics 2024. Despite defeating Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez in the semifinals, she was barred from the final against Sarah Ann Hildebrandt due to exceeding the weight limit by just 100 grams. Phogat has expressed deep gratitude for the support from the Sikh community during her recent struggles, including her protests against a sexual assault case involving a prominent politician. Following her disqualification, she petitioned the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for a silver medal but was ultimately denied. Although she announced her retirement from wrestling, Phogat hinted at the possibility of continuing in the sport under different circumstances. Her visit to the temple coincided with a celebration in her hometown, where she was warmly welcomed and honored for her achievements.
