Former President Donald Trump has formally requested a New York judge to overturn his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments, following a recent Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity. Trump's legal team argues that the evidence used in his trial, involving conversations and actions taken during his presidency, should have been excluded under the new immunity standards. The Supreme Court decision grants former presidents broad immunity for official acts and restricts the use of official acts as evidence for private conduct prosecutions. Prosecutors have until July 24 to respond, and Judge Juan Merchan will rule on the motion on September 6, with sentencing postponed to September 18 if necessary. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has previously stated that the defense’s arguments lack merit. Trump's conviction marks the first criminal conviction of a former U.S. president.
