US Navy Names New Ship USS Lansing

The US Navy has announced that its future Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport ship will be named USS Lansing, marking the first time a Navy vessel honors Michigan's capital. Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro made the announcement during a ceremony at the Michigan Capitol, attended by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who also serves as the ship's sponsor. The USS Lansing will be built in Alabama and is designed for transporting troops, equipment, and supplies across significant distances, with capabilities to operate in shallow waters. Lansing Mayor Andy Schor expressed pride in the recognition, emphasizing the city's international significance.
