Jason Shah Criticizes Bhansali's Heeramandi Direction

Jason Shah, who played British officer Cartwright in the Netflix series 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,' expressed dissatisfaction with his experience on set, revealing that director Sanjay Leela Bhansali did not direct many of his scenes. Shah felt his character's potential was underutilized due to the lack of direct engagement from Bhansali, who was working on his first web series. Shah noted that the extended production schedule and involvement of other directors left him feeling that deeper character development and richer storytelling were missed opportunities. Despite raising his concerns, he refrained from pushing further to avoid being labelled a 'problem maker.' He also mentioned a lack of communication on set, which further hindered his ability to explore his character fully. The series, which premiered on May 1, 2024, features a star-studded cast and explores the lives of women in the red-light district of Lahore during the 1940s.
